I believe in capturing the real, unfiltered moments that make your family unique. Family photo sessions are more than just a series of snapshots – they’re an experience filled with laughter, love, and genuine connections. I have worked with tons of toddlers, in all sorts of moods and have two of my own. They have been great at giving me a range of challenges to work through.
Here’s what you can expect when you step in front of my lens for your family photo session:
No Discipline Zone (Unless it’s a Safety Issue)
“No Discipline Zone.” Your child is free to express themselves in their own way. Trust me I know you want them on their best behavior, since you invested time and money. The best way to get them to cooperate is to get on their level. I love a high energy toddler, chances are they don’t like being told to sit and smile. This is why I incorporate games, play and other prompts based on the situation. If they are acting shy, this is the best time to grab those sweet snuggle shots. If they’re not up for a particular pose or suggestion, no worries! We’ll simply switch gears and try something else. The focus is on letting their personalities shine! In the end you will receive joy filled photos, that will remind you of who they once were, unfiltered.
Embrace the Cuteness, Sweetness, and Hilarity
Look at your family through the lens of adoration. Every little action, every giggle, and every quirky expression is the cutest, sweetest, and most hilarious thing. Even if your little one makes a fart noise or does something, not so cute… Our goal is to capture the genuine joy that comes from embracing the uniqueness of your family members. Kids are naturally cute, it is us as parents that ruin the shots with our disapproval, so let it happen, go with the flow, relinquish control.
No Forced Smiles, Please
Say goodbye to coached smiles! The magic happens when moments unfold organically. We encourage you not to instruct your children to smile at the camera. Instead, let them be themselves, and we’ll capture the authentic smiles that naturally emerge during play and interaction. In the beginning of the session, I usually grab some camera aware photos of your family where everyone smiles at the camera. After that I like things to become more organic.
A Mix of Guidance and Freedom
During the session, we’ll provide plenty of ideas and activities to keep things interesting. However, we also value the importance of letting your family be themselves. There will be moments where we step back and let you enjoy each other’s company naturally. If there is something you and your family like to do together, we can always incorporate that into you family photo session as well.
When in Doubt, Connect
Not sure what to do during the session? The answer is simple – get close, snuggle, touch, kiss, make someone laugh. Play, explore, and joke around. The most beautiful moments often arise from genuine connections, so feel free to express your love and joy in whatever way feels natural to you.
Bribes and Comfort Items
If you do not want it included in your family photo session, I suggest not to bring it, leave it in the car and don’t talk about it! As we know, once they are focused on something it is difficult to redirect. If they have a favorite stuffy and you don’t mind including it, bring it along! I do not suggest bringing blankets as they can clash with outfits. As far as food and candy bribes go, it depends on the child. If you think you need a back up, bring some mini marshmallows, but do not talk about them until they are needed. You will find that your family photo session, will not require bribes.
The Experience Matters
The experience is just as important as the photos themselves. The memories you create during the session will be forever tied to the images we captured. My main goal is to ensure that everyone has a good time together, creating lasting memories that will bring smiles for years to come.
